external image JFK015.jpgAs soon as he became president Kennedy started to implement a legislative agenda which became known as the New Frontier. With this agenda he hoped to increase aid to education, provide health insurance to the elderly, and create a Dept. of Urban Affairs. He found that getting anything done in congress is almost to much hassle to bother trying.
Although there was a steep democratic majority in both the senate and the House, Kennedy was unable to pass many of his programs due to the fact that many of the Democrats felt that they didn't owe Kennedy anything (I have no idea why that matters, the programs were for the people not Kennedy) and he forgot to bribe them. Of course the Republicans were against him because...they're republican, and they thought that big Government would send America down an ominous path.
Despite having little support from congress he did manage to boost the economy, majorly expand women's rights and instate the Special Olympics.
